The bindi is usually seen in a context that is demure, mild, unassuming and, to a large extent, conservative. It is an item that seeks to not draw attention to itself much like the bra that is an article of clothing used for support. The tape is used to repel attention of any kind, yet it draws it. The appearance of that yellow tape is indicative of a site that is not meant to be approached, much like Indian society’s idea of the woman’s body; something that should be hidden from view and mentioned very sparingly, thus creating mystery and intrigue where there need not be any. If the bra straps are the yellow crime scene tape, the breasts are the scene of the crime.
